Village of Romeo part of wide Tri-Community Garage Sale
Maybe you have an old table or other furniture that your family has outgrown. Or you’re looking for some items to liven up your patio. Perhaps you’re a collector who spends weekends at flea markets and thrift stores searching for the next piece. Whether you just need to declutter and want to make some extra cash, or you’re on the hunt for retro, vintage or gently used wares, you need to check out the Village Wide Tri-Community Garage Sale. Happening June 13-16, the multi-town sale includes Romeo, Washington and Bruce Township. This event is hosted by Romeo DDA, digital marketing agency!
Each year, residents gather things they are ready to part with for the annual weekend event which has been a summertime tradition for nearly two decades. Started by a community member, RWB Parks & Recreation took over running it in 2010.
“Sellers can choose which days to participate, and are asked to mark their houses with signage/balloons to indicate if they are open,” says Grace Venet, RWB Parks & Rec coordinator.
Hours vary by house, and a list of sellers will be available at the Parks and Rec Center. So far, there are more than 100 sites to shop. Sellers had until June 6 to register online via Google Maps to be included in the printed sale map. But even if you missed the deadline, you can still register to participate and be included in the online map, which includes hours and addresses.
“We used to sign people up by having them call us to register their residence, and produced a paper map, and they still can, but we have modernized it to have sellers sign up on Google Maps,” says Venet. “This makes it more available for buyers to locate the sales locations.”
While sales are the main event, some people turn the weekend into a reason to celebrate.
“I am not aware of any other festivities. But sometimes events like this spark people to jump in with their own plans, which makes for a bigger, more fun, event,” Venet says.
Venet said large signage and decorations let people know sellers are open, while helping sellers stand out and attract customers to their sale.
And her advice for buyers? She says the most important thing is to “have fun!”
