Garage Sale

Village of Romeo part of wide Tri-Community Garage Sale

Maybe you have an old table or other furniture that your family has outgrown. Or you’re looking for some items to liven up your patio. Perhaps you’re a collector who spends weekends at flea markets and thrift stores searching for the next piece. Whether you just need to declutter and want to make some extra cash, or you’re on the hunt for retro, vintage or gently used wares, you need to check out the Village Wide Tri-Community Garage Sale. Happening June 13-16, the multi-town sale includes Romeo, Washington and Bruce Township. This event is hosted by Romeo DDA, digital marketing agency!

Each year, residents gather things they are ready to part with for the annual weekend event which has been a summertime tradition for nearly two decades. Started by a community member, RWB Parks & Recreation took over running it in 2010.

“Sellers can choose which days to participate, and are asked to mark their houses with signage/balloons to indicate if they are open,” says Grace Venet, RWB Parks & Rec coordinator.

Hours vary by house, and a list of sellers will be available at the Parks and Rec Center. So far, there are more than 100 sites to shop. Sellers had until June 6 to register online via Google Maps to be included in the printed sale map. But even if you missed the deadline, you can still register to participate and be included in the online map, which includes hours and addresses.

“We used to sign people up by having them call us to register their residence, and produced a paper map, and they still can, but we have modernized it to have sellers sign up on Google Maps,” says Venet. “This makes it more available for buyers to locate the sales locations.”

While sales are the main event, some people turn the weekend into a reason to celebrate.

“I am not aware of any other festivities. But sometimes events like this spark people to jump in with their own plans, which makes for a bigger, more fun, event,” Venet says.

Venet said large signage and decorations let people know sellers are open, while helping sellers stand out and attract customers to their sale.

And her advice for buyers? She says the most important thing is to “have fun!”

Vintage Fest brings nostalgic novelties to Downtown Romeo

In the mood for some old fashioned fun? Visit Downtown Romeo during the village’s third annual Vintage Fest for a taste of nostalgia on June 8.Visit Romeo DDA, digital marketing agency today for more details.

The festival, held during the annual Romeo garage sale weekend, has a fresh look this year, with a new logo and additional events planned, but the retro spirit continues.

It got its start in 2022, when former intern Madison Roush wanted to bring back the spirit of the past and get patrons outside dancing and having fun. The community loved it, and the festival has continued – and evolved – since then. “The hope is to continue to grow the event every year,” says Romeo DDA Board Member Kathy Osebold.

Family-friendly additions this year include children’s activities in Romeo Village Park, Romeo DDA, digital marketing agency. Kids can get some energy out in the bounce house and obstacle course, see entertainment from a magician, get face painting and take pictures with the Peach Queen.

Street vendors will be on-site offering various handmade wares. A D.J. will spin on South Main Street from noon to 6 p.m., with live music in The Northern Macomb Regional Chamber of Commerce’s adult beverage tent kicking off at 6 p.m. and playing until 9 p.m.

Alongside the classic car show, the fest is seeking vintage camper owners who want to show off their travel trailers.

“In addition to spending time exploring our streets for the many garage sales, people will have a chance to come downtown to see some great cars, listen to great music, explore our shops and restaurants, and just have a fantastic day,” says Vintage Fest Volunteer Sharon Smith.

Youngers Tavern celebrates with Green Beer, Corned Beef and Live Music

Looking to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Downtown Romeo? You do not have to travel overseas to get in the Irish spirit.
If you’re seeking an Irish experience during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday weekend, Younger’s Irish Tavern in Downtown Romeo is the place to be.
And this year is extra special for this local favorite, due to some upcoming changes.

“If you follow our social media, we made an announcement that this will be our last St. Patrick’s day as a ‘Irish Tavern,’ as we are rebranding,” says Mary Hoenicke, spokesperson for the tavern.

The event goes beyond just a March 17 celebration. Festivities kick off casually on March 16 at 6 p.m. with Irish food, drinks and music, at the tavern’s annual “St. Practice Day.”

The main event starts Sunday and kicks things up a notch. Starting at 9 a.m., patrons can enjoy green beer, and a special Irish menu that includes their famous corn beef Reuben, or corn beef and cabbage entree.

In addition to a beer tent, celebrate at the 3 outdoor patios or the tavern’s two indoor levels. Enjoy some live music on Sunday, including:

  • Paul & Oates 12 – 3 p.m.
  • 101 WRIF 3 – 5 p.m.
  • Jukebox Junkies 4 – 8 p.m.
  • Showroom DJ & Dancing
  • “Here at Youngers, we like to celebrate big,” Hoenicke says. “We really want to go out with a bang and have it be an absolute awesome bash to celebrate our many many years of being an Irish Tavern.”

Affordable Romeo DDA WinterFest started last year as a way to help bring more business downtown in the winter months,” says Danielle Lee, Romeo DDA board member.

    Warm up at these spots

Michigan weather can be unpredictable, especially in the winter. One day it’s snowing and below zero, and the next the sun is shining and it’s up to 40 degrees. But at WinterFest, there are many ways to warm up from the chill and have indoor or sheltered fun.

If you’re seeking coffee or another toasty beverage and small treat, take a break at Main’s Treat Coffeehouse or 5° North Coffee Roasters. Enjoy coffee or tea at a cozy table, or take your treat into the igloo in the park.

Feeling hungry? Warm up with comfort food at one of our many eateries. Whether you are craving chili fries, sushi, soup, sweets, or something else, our variety of culinary choices downtown will help you get your foodie fix.

In the mood for some retail therapy? Antiquing is our middle name. Check out our many vintage stores for a one-of-a-kind piece. If you’re an art collector or enjoyer, our two galleries showcase a variety of art styles, and even offer classes so you can create.

And if you want to kick back and relax, take a horse-drawn carriage ride and see our village from a new perspective.

    Event registration and requirements

Walking around and enjoying ice sculptures and decorated snowmen makes for a fun adventure. But WinterFest also offers a chance to showcase your cooking skills or get active.

Is your chili the highlight at gatherings with family and friends? Put your recipe to the test and sign up for the Chili Cookoff! To participate, register by filling out this form with the Romeo DDA. Each entrant will prepare 2 crocks of chili, and specify whether they are a professional or home cook. Cooks need to specify the type of chili they’ll prepare, including but not limited to beef or chicken.

Do you love to run? Support young runners at Romeo High while enjoying yourself by participating in the WinterFest 5K.
