Romeo’s Main’s Treat Coffeehouse Receives “Best Redevelopment Project” Award
Rochester, MI — The Michigan Downtown Association (MDA) recently unveiled the recipients of its 9th Annual Michigan Downtown Awards during the organization’s Annual Conference held in Rochester, Michigan. Among this year’s honorees was Romeo resident Jon Rose and his team, who were recognized with the Best Redevelopment Project for 2025 for their transformative work on Main’s Treat Coffeehouse.
“The complete and total renovation of an underutilized historic structure in downtown is amazing and transforming,” said Dana Walker, Executive Director of the MDA. “Main’s Treat is more than a coffee shop — the project represents a major investment in the vitality, character, and economic growth of the historic downtown.”
Located at 201 N. Main Street in Downtown Romeo, Main’s Treat Coffeehouse has breathed new life into a once-underused building, turning it into a vibrant and welcoming gathering place in the heart of the community. Since opening, the coffeehouse has quickly become a hub of daily life, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere where residents and visitors alike can gather, collaborate, and connect.
“The vision was to create a space where community, culture, and small business entrepreneurship intersect,” said Jon Rose, the project’s developer. The renovation emphasizes local craftsmanship and community spirit, providing a venue that supports local makers and suppliers while fostering social and economic growth in downtown Romeo.
Each year, the MDA recognizes communities, organizations, and businesses across Michigan for outstanding marketing, economic development, and placemaking initiatives. The Michigan Downtown Awards celebrate projects that exemplify innovation, collaboration, and a strong commitment to downtown vitality.
“Nominations for the MDA Annual Awards are received each year before September,” Walker explained. “Eligible projects must be completed within the past three years in a Michigan Downtown Association member community.”
